The Marginated tortoise or Tesduo marginata, is the largest of the European tortoises. Adults average 12-14”, with the males growing larger than the females. Males are also well know for their flared marginal skirt, giving rise to the common name for this species. As youngsters they have a cream and brown colored shell that will darken with age into a primarily deep brown or black coloration. They have a natural brumation period in the winter where they will slow down or burrow shallowly into their environment. This species is great for intermediate level tortoise keepers and do best when housed outdoors as adults.

This tortoise was produced by our female Blueberry, hatched 7-1-25, currently weighing 81g, measuring 2.75” along the plastron, and was incubated for female.
