Mexican Painted Wood Turtle #1
This subspecies of Mexican painted wood turtle, Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima pulcherrima, is primarily aquatic. Unlike other wood turtles, they prefer to be in shallow water most the time with a dry basking egg laying area. They are omnivorous and do well on commercial turtle diets when also fed leafy greens, worms, and occasional insects. The females grow slightly larger than the males a lay 1-3 oblong eggs a clutch. They are an easy species to manage in a large wetland tub or other DIY stock tank style enclosure. This subspecies are well known for their striking red-orange patterned plastrons, carapace spots, and facial markings. They can be housed in groups but temperament will determine if multiple males can be housed together.
This turtle was produced by our F1 Rodriguez line, it hatched 4-16-25, currently weighing 110g, measuring 3.75” along the plastron, and was incubated for female.
*Please note incubation for temperature sex determination does not guarantee the sex.
